An informative article about Penang.

Xiaomi today has launched an update to its flagship smartphone line-up with the introduction of the new Xiaomi 12S series in China. Alongside the top-of-the-line 12S Ultra model is the standard 12S and the higher specced 12S Pro. Both of which are updated versions of the company’s original 12 series flagship smartphones that launched late last year.

The standard and Pro variants of the Xiaomi 12S phones are almost indifferent from the original iterations at first glance – save for the new textured rear panel, which is inspired by the camera design by the company’s new partner, Leica. Also new are the camera maker’s branding on the duo’s rear camera array. On that note, all three Xiaomi 12S models are also the company’s first ever devices to feature imaging technologies and software that are co-developed with Leica, which enables for 10-bit RAW image capture that has been calibrated by Adobe Labs.

Under its hood is the new Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset, paired together with an Adreno 730 GPU, up to 12GB of RAM, and up to 256GB of UFS 3.1 internal storage. Powering the phone is a 4,500mAh battery with 67W wired and 50W wireless fast charging capabilities, and also 10W reverse wireless charging support. Besides that, it also comes with Android 12 out of the box via Xiaomi’s MIUI 13 platform, as well as NFC, Bluetooth 5.2 and WiFi connectivity.

Next is the Xiaomi 12S Pro, which sports the same 6.73-inch AMOLED display as the Ultra variant. Similarly, the screen also comes with 2K resolution, P3 colour gamut support, and 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, and an under-display fingerprint sensor. The Harman Kardon tuned stereo speakers are present on this variant as well.

Like the 12S, the Pro version also comes with a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset and Adreno 730 GPU. Its memory options are almost identical as well, though its highest configuration comes with a 512GB UFS 3.1 storage capacity instead. This model features a slightly larger battery capacity of 4,600mAh, which comes with 120W wired and 50W wireless fast charging that is managed by its onboard Xiaomi Surge P1 chipset. Other than that, it also comes with Android 12 out of the box via MIUI 13, as well as NFC, Bluetooth 5.2 and WiFi connectivity.
