A really good post about Penang.

Even though you may have seen or even run the early build of Windows 11 that was leaked out recently yourself, there are still plenty of details that were only revealed by Microsoft after the new operating system made its official debut earlier tonight. Among them is the minimum hardware requirements needed to run Windows 11.

Here is the full list:

  • 1.0 GHz dual-core 64-bit processor / System on a Chip (SoC)
  • 4GB RAM
  • 64GB storage
  • 9-inch HD 720p, 8-bits display
  • A graphics card/GPU that supports DirectX 12 and WDDM 2.0 driver
  • Supports UEFI, Secure Boot, TPM 2.0

Microsoft has also noted that Windows 11 Home users must have a Microsoft account and need to connect their machine to the Internet when they first run the operating system.

It is quite obvious that the minimum requirements of Windows 11 are more specific and much higher than Windows 10 which we have listed below:

  • 1.0 GHz processor / SoC
  • 1GB RAM for 32-bit / 2GB for 64-bit
  • 16GB storage for 32-bit / 32GB for 64-bit
  • A graphics card/GPU that supports DirectX 9 and WDDM 1.0 driver
  • A display with 800 x 600 resolution.

As noted in our previous report, Windows 10 users will be able to upgrade to Windows 11 for free but only if their machines meet the operating system’s minimum hardware requirements. Microsoft has since released a tool called PC Health Check that users can use to determine if their current Windows 10 machine is able to support Windows 11.

1.0 GHz processor

However, Windows 11 will only be made available to the general public towards the end of 2021. Likewise, the free upgrade for Windows 10 users will kick off at the same time as well although the exact timing could be different from one PC to another.
