Video: Realising my childhood dreams in a Porsche 911 GT3! – AutoVlog

A really good post about Penang.

They often say “never meet your heroes”, but yours truly was given the chance to do just that sometime in December last year – and it turned out to be one of the best decision I’ve ever made.

I am, of course, talking about the Porsche 911 GT3 – the poster car of my childhood, and one of my all-time dream cars. And as luck would have it, Porsche Malaysia invited us over to their World Road Show event in Sepang Circuit, where we had the chance to sample a variety of Porsche models in various scenarios, including a track drive in the aforementioned dream car.

The 911 GT3 is powered by Porsche’s iconic 4.0-litre naturally-aspirated flat-six boxer engine, making 510 hp and 470 Nm of torque in this latest iteration. While the figures aren’t “mind-blowing” in this day and age, it’s the way that power builds all the way to 9,000 rpm that makes it truly special – just listen to it sing.

The car that we sampled at Sepang came with the seven-speed PDK gearbox. While “enthusiasts” will claim that you’re not truly driving the car unless it’s a manual, the speedy PDK did not once detract from the sense of engagement while driving it around the circuit.

In fact, we’d argue that on track, the PDK is the way to go as you can focus 100% of your mind into attacking the corners and just enjoy the drive. It’s faster, too, taking 0.5 seconds less to reach 100 km/h from a standstill at 3.4 seconds. Talk to us again when you’re buying a GT3 Touring…

Aside from the 911 GT3, Porsche Malaysia also organised a variety of other activities to push their cars to the limits – including going off-road in a Porsche Cayenne. Be sure to check out the video above to see what else we got to try!
