A really good post about Penang Malaysia.

The Civic Type R is nothing short of an automotive icon, and Honda wants to keep it that way with the all-new FL5-generation model. To that end, Honda has spent a considerable amount of care and effort, including devising up new manufacturing processes, to make sure it rolls out of the factory in its best suit possible, and they’re now showing it off in a new YouTube video.

Every example of the all-new Honda Civic Type R comes to life at the carmaker’s Yorii plant in Japan. But even though the factory completes the final assembly, it actually takes a global effort to create a car like this.

For instance, the FL5 CTR’s engine is made in the Anna Engine Plant in Ohio, and the transmission in Honda’s Suzuka plant. Both of which are then shipped over to a Honda “Mother Factory” in Ogawa, Japan, to be merged together before finally being integrated into the car at Yorii.

Since the Civic Type R is based on the 11th-generation FE/FL Honda Civic, it also shares most of the production line with the regular model. However, many of the processes – such as the assembly of the unique suspension – also had to be retooled and redesigned, due to the unique parts exclusive to the high-performance model.

The all-new FL5 Honda Civic Type R features an improved version of the carmaker’s K20C1 turbocharged inline-four engine, which now makes 315 hp and 420 Nm of torque. Power, as always on the Type R, is sent to the front wheels via a six-speed manual transmission.
