An interesting post about Penang Malaysia.
Just two months after the BMW iX made its official global debut at the 2021 Shanghai motor show, the fully-electric SUV has now made its way to Thailand, making it the first country in the region to launch the model.
The BMW iX will only be offered in a sole xDrive50 variant over in the Land of Smiles, with order books scheduled to open next Monday, the 21st of June. Fully imported from Germany, prices for the BMW iX in Thailand starts at THB5.99 million (~RM793k) with the standard warranty package. Only 20 units will be available, according to the pre-booking website.
The xDrive50 variant, being the current range-topper of the model, is powered by two electric motors – one on each axle – for a combined total system output of 503 hp, translating to a 0 to 100 km/h sprint in under five seconds.
BMW claims that the xDrive50 can also travel over 600 km (WLTP test cycle) on a single charge, thanks to the 111.5 kWh battery pack underneath the floor.
With a 200 kW DC fast charger, the BMW iX xDrive50 is able to replenish 80% of its battery in just 34 minutes. Though when charging at home with the included 11 kW AC three-phase wall box, a full charge will take approximately 7.5 hours.
The carmaker’s Thailand arm did not expand further on the model’s country-specific equipment list, though we do know that the iX will be the first car to feature BMW’s latest iDrive Operating System, displayed proudly on a single pane of curved glass which includes a 12.3-inch “information display” (instrument cluster) and a 14.9-inch “control display” (infotainment touchscreen).

Closer to home, BMW Malaysia also recently started teasing the fully-electric model on its own website. With the model now available in Thailand, it’ll probably not be long until we see it on our own roads as well!
