Chiang Rai Station @ Bukit Mertajam, Penang.

February 16, 2021 By Keith Leave a Comment

An informative post on Malaysia.

Chiang Rai Station is a hidden gem in Bukit Mertajam’s old town, the Thai restaurant has an overly simple exterior… almost not convincing enough to attract customers. But those who are in the know would regularly patronize this place-most of the regulars are those staying in the neighborhood and coming in for takeaways. There are limited seating in the restaurant, almost impossible to accommodate large groups. The menu however, features many popular Thai delights- from the usual Thai Salad to Tom Yum, Thai Fried Rice, Thai Pork Knuckle Rice to Thai-influenced Fish dishes; some items like Pad Thai are not available though. Apart from the authenticity and the deliciousness of the dishes, the affordably priced menu is also a strong pulling factor for the customers.

Kerabu Glass Noodles (Rm 10)

Both appetizers- the Som Tam and Kerabu Glass Noodles were great, the former one had a strong spicy kick while the latter one veered towards the sour side. But both were beautifully seasoned. The Tom Yum Seafood was probably our favorite dish of the evening… sweat inducing but packed with great flavors. The dish could have more seafood but the soup itself was very delicious and best spooned over rice. Something similar would be the Tom Yum Mama which seemed too good in picture but it was slightly over-seasoned and was saltier than the Tom Yum Seafood. We prefer the latter one, but overall, it was a pretty good and enjoyable meal.
