65c Ondo Bakery Cafe @ Eco Bloom, Simpang Ampat, Penang.

March 1, 2021 By Keith Leave a Comment

A great post about Malaysia.

One of the busiest bakeries in the neighborhood of Simpang Ampat has got to be 65c Ondo Bakery Cafe… a new tenant to Eco Bloom. The bakery started its business operations in early December 2020 and it prides itself on its Japanese baking techniques coupled with modern technology as well as the imported flour and butter. Step in the place and you will be amazed by the colorful selections of bread and pastries- from the usual familiar Toasts to unusually attractive Cronuts, Croissant, Cakes etc. There’s also a copy space for diners to dine-in and enjoy the freshly baked pastries. There is no proper main menu but a good beverage list. Definitely a place to look out for especially if you are a bread lover or for an occasional indulgence over quality pastries.

Matcha Tiramisu (Rm 15)

We did not manage to try some of their best sellers as they were sold out when were there at late evening. The place was pretty packed and many items were sold out. So if you wish for more options, plan your visit there earlier in the day.

We had both Yam Toast and Matcha Tiramisu. The Yam Toast was almost too pretty to miss- sweet, delicious home-made Yam paste spread over their soft-pillowy bread and beautifully coated with fresh cream. It was light on the palate… we could taste the Yam Paste but it was not too bold. The sweetness was also beautifully balanced. The Matcha Tiramisu was equally good, there was no Coffee in this dessert, only Matcha. The distinctive vegetal flavor of the Matcha was strong and the Cream Cheese was light, a pity that it was not chilled enough for a better texture.

Little Jetty Cafe 小船頭白米粉 @ Simpang Ampat, Penang.

February 21, 2021 By Keith Leave a Comment

An interesting post on Penang.

A short drive from Bukit Tambun toll (towards Eco World Projects at Simpang Ampat)) will land you at Little Jetty Cafe 小船頭白米粉, a curious but busy spot right next to the busy road. It’s hard not to notice the signage that says “White Vermicelli Noodles”… a popular Singaporean stir fry dish that is extremely uncommon to Penang. The place also offers the usual Chu-Char dishes as well as some local Western dishes. A worth-stopping by place especially if you are in the vicinity… for a casual, inexpensive and satisfying meal.

On top of the usual menu, there’s also a display counter available for diners to hand pick their preferred ingredients to cook as Tom Yum or Clear soup. We opted for their Tom Yum Soup and thought it was quite a disappointment. Back to the main stir fry dishes. It was our first experience on the White Vermicelli Noodles… almost like the Singaporean Hokkien Mee- Vermicelli Noodles were cooked in broth and served with meat and seafood. We were expecting the noodles to be overly soft and slouchy but they turned out to be alright… even better with some serving of Sambal. Stir Fried Hor Fun on the other hand, was nothing out of the ordinary but for the portion, Rm 6 was a steal. The Steamed Flower Clams with Spicy and Sour Sauce was good but their Signature Talapia with Fried Chinese Pickled Radish was even better. The Fish was deep fried to golden brown and topped with Chinese Pickled Radish. It was crispy and the flavor combo was good, extremely good value for a mere Rm 20.
