As You Like Hong Kong Chicken Pot @ Chow Thye Road, George Town, Penang

Penang news and views.

Great new post posted from What2seeonline.com. Probably among the leading generators of tips you could find.

When patrons walk into As You Like Hong Kong Chicken Pot 香港隨變燒烤麻辣雞煲 on Chow Thye Road, George Town, Penang, they will be comforted with its non-halal steamboat and Mala spicy flavours.

It’s just two weeks after opening up their new premises and the restaurant is already seeing a steady flow of patrons.

In the air-conditioned restaurant, guests can expect enhanced comfort while waiting for the hot pot to come to a boil. Served in a clay pot, it comes with several types of soup – Authentic Chicken Pot, Si Chuan Spicy Chicken Pot, Spicy Chicken Pot, Sour Pig Stomach Chicken Pot, and the Special 2 in 1 Whole Chicken Pot (with choices of any 2 flavors).

You need to tick the boxes of the packages to choose the level of spiciness as you like, besides the many add-on ingredients on the menu itself. As for the condiments, they only serve cut chili-padi with soy sauce.

There are deep-fried snacks and house pickles to nibble on before the meal. We started off with their deep-fried fish skin and very appetizing zingy pickled cucumber, and black fungus.

Among the many soup options, the Sour Pig Stomach Chicken Pot was our choice on the first visit. The piping hot pot comes with half a chicken, pig stomach, and sour vegetables. Its saltiness and sourness coupled with poultry and pork blend together to create a rich flavor.

Besides a lineup of pork, beef, and vegetables, they also do seafood. Offering tender meaty goodness are the nicely marbled thin slices of pork belly and pork tendon ball with ginger. The crispy homemade bean curd roll (fu chok roll) is really good and highly recommended. For vegetables, there are leaves of lettuce, tong oh (茼蒿), besides cold tofu, and sweet corn. To finish up the meal, we boiled some Hong Kong Nissin noodles in the soup.

No steamboat meal is complete without a cold beverage. We had the restaurant’s speciality, Watercress With Honey, a sweet variation of its more popular savory version.

The steamboat at As You Like Hong Kong Chicken Pot made for a delicious and fun meal. The outlet emphasizes on food quality and friendly services. Servers are always on hand to replenish the hot pot with additional rich broth!

The restaurant is open daily from 6 pm till 1 am (last order 12.30am). We recommend making a reservation to avoid a wait.

Penang news and views.

The following piece of information was first shared by What2seeonline.com. Normally I look forward to looking at one of their posts as they are really revealing. I hope you find it helpful.

Have A Seat 坐坐吧 located in The Landmark (beside Precinct 10) in Tanjung Tokong, Penang is a new cafe which invites you to stop and have a seat for coffee and tea with desserts. With black facade and glass panels, the new kid on the block can be easily spotted from the busy Jalan Tanjung Tokong. Inside, it boasts a relaxing and comfortable ambience.

A scroll through its single page beverage menu, one finds it filled with a variety of hot and cold coffee selections and tea. If you are one of the many people who go for coffee, you can choose to have their special brew coffee, americano,  espresso, and latte.

If you’re not into coffee, feel free to explore the cafe’s tea menu which provides choices like aromatic Zhulu, Ali Mountain and Red Oolong besides Just Peppermint, French Earl Grey and the full-bodied Melbourne Breakfast tea.

The best part is, there is also a tiny food menu created by the lady owner. The owner takes sandwich a step further with the Kimchi & Chicken Sandwich. The sandwich with crispy edges calls for kimchi and chicken in the filling. It is simple and delightful with the bold flavor and crunchy texture of the kimchee cabbage and chicken cumulating together. The sandwich even comes with a refreshing salad.

For the Creamy Tomato Chicken Spaghetti, the dish is prepared to provide al dente pasta and a tender chicken drumstick in sauce; a combo of sweet and tangy taste. The sauce does give the dish a whole new kick, just felt a bit sweet.

For desserts, the cafe has options ranging from Bean Paste Flower Cake, Fruit Cookie, Mochi, Panna Cotta to the classic Tiramisu. Don’t missed out on the fruit cookie. Priced at RM8, it is one crunchy bite and well complimented with light cream, and sweet-tart burst of strawberries, kiwi and berries.
