We may be nearing the end of 2021, but there’s no better time than now to really get into sustainability initiatives. Because it’s never too late to go green. When we heard that Lotus’s Malaysia is on board in supporting the government’s 12th Malaysia Plan in environmental sustainability and green technology, we had to find out more!

Lotus’s Introduces The Reverse Vending Machine So You Can Recycle & Be Rewarded!

Watch on YouTube.

As part of Lotus’s ongoing initiatives to reduce waste, they are introducing the Reverse Vending Machine (RVM) by Klean! Sounds intriguing? It’s ultimately a recycling machine for the disposal of used bottles and cans. What it does is help minimise waste and plastic pollution by encouraging grocery shoppers to recycle.

Casinos & Gaming (NEC)

Simply recycle unwanted bottles and cans to earn 500 Klean Points, which is equivalent to 50 bottles and/or cans, and that entitles you to one RM5 Lotus’s eVoucher! The eVouchers are redeemable at any Lotus’s outlets nationwide too. You can even redeem other rewards such as Grab vouchers and even Boost Coins!

Here’s How To Recycle, Scan & Redeem:

  1. Download the Klean The World app on Apple Store or Play Store, and register your details
  2. Press ‘Recycle Now’ on the RVM
  3. Deposit up to 10 empty bottles/cans into RVM

Phase one of ‘total lockdown’ for 14 days, from June 1st 2021

May 29, 2021 By Keith Leave a Comment

An informative article on Malaysia.

The Malaysian government has just announced the nationwide implementation of Phase One- Full closure of the social and economic sectors or ‘full lockdown’ for 14 days beginning June 1st 2021.

In a statement by the Prime Minister’s Office, all sectors are not allowed to operate except essential economic and service sectors that have been listed by the Majlis Keselamatan Negara (National Security Council).

Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said, “The decision was reached after taking into account the latest Covid-19 situation in Malaysia, with daily cases exceeding 8,000 and over 70,000 active cases.” Today marked a new high of 8,290 new cases, the fourth day in a row that Malaysia registered new daily records.

Healthcare Facilities & Services (NEC)

The government hopes this move will see the daily Covid-19 cases reduce significantly during the 14-day period, which then the government will progress to Phase Two and Phase Three. Additional information about Phase Two and Three is as follows:

  • Phase Two– Reopening of certain economic sectors that do not involve large gatherings and able to adhere to social distancing. The duration planned is four weeks
  • Phase Three– Similar to current MCO where social activities and gatherings are disallowed, limited attendance at workplaces and opening of almost all economic sectors with strict adherence to SOPs and physical distancing

The forward transition between phases is dependent on the risk assessment by the Ministry of Health (MOH) that takes the development of daily cases and hospital capacity into account.

The government is also pushing for the increase of vaccination in the coming weeks to achieve herd immunity in the country.

Perodua’s new Care Seat fits both infants and toddlers, up to 12 years old!

May 7, 2021 By Keith Leave a Comment

An informative post on Penang.

The use of Child Restraint Systems (CRS), or child seats have become mandatory since January 1, 2020. If you still haven’t purchased one for your family, or better yet, recently had a new family member (congratulations!), Perodua’s new Care Seat might be of your interest!

Priced at RM680 in Peninsular Malaysia and RM695 in East Malaysia, the Perodua Care Seat is suitable for children of all ages up to 12 (or weighing up to 36 kg). The new seat replaces the previous GearUp Infant and Toddler seats, which retailed for RM785 and RM975 respectively.

The ISOFIX-enabled child seat complies with the ECE R44/04 standards, which is one of the two standards adopted by the Malaysian government. It can be installed facing forwards or backwards, and features six recline angles as well as a harness that self-adjusts according to headrest position.

“The Perodua Care Seat is more cost-effective as the same seat can be used for thechild throughout, without needing to change from an infant to a toddler seat as the child gets older,” said Perodua President and CEO Dato’ Zainal Abidin Ahmad. But of course, this only applies up to the expiry date – yes, child seats have them!

“It bears repeating that all children should be properly secured in child seats in moving vehicles for their safety. In encouraging this, Perodua is bringing out a product that is durable, adaptable, comfortable, affordable and meets safety standards.

“Perodua will continue to spread awareness, educate and advocate the use of child seats amongst our customers. We hope the use of child seats in Malaysia will become commonplace one day – this would go a long way in reducing road injuries and fatalities, especially of our precious young ones,” he added.

The new Perodua Care Seat is available in either grey or blue, and comes as standard with a one-year warranty – double the warranty period of the outgoing GearUp Infant and Toddler seats. Buying a new Perodua? The Care Seat can also be factored directly into the hire-purchase agreement.

The Perodua Car Seat is now on sale at all authorised Perodua outlets nationwide.

Fuel stations in Malaysia now dispense two Euro 5M biodiesel blends

April 1, 2021 By Keith Leave a Comment

A great article on Penang.

The Malaysian government, via the Environment and Water Ministry, has begun instructing fuel suppliers to commence dispensing low-sulphur Euro 5M Diesel from today, April 1st 2021.

Wait a minute, hasn’t fuel companies been offering Euro 5M Diesel since the middle of 2016? Upon further information checking, the government has now completely phased out Euro 2M standard that originated from the mid-90s, offering just Euro 5M diesel but with two blends of biodiesel.

Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man

The Euro 5M Diesel which we are familiar has a palm oil biodiesel-to-petroleum diesel blend of 7%, dubbed B7. Meanwhile, the newly introduced Euro 5M Diesel will continue to have a higher percentage of palm oil biodiesel of 10% or B10.

Hyundai Santa Fe

Based on a visit to BHPetrol and Caltex websites, both blends of Euro 5M specification will continue to use blue nozzles for B7 and black for B10. Owners of modern turbocharged diesel engines such as the SkyActiv-D 2.2 unit from Mazda and Hyundai Santa Fe 2.2CRDi must continue to use the B7 blend, as a 7% blend of palm oil biodiesel is the maximum quantity the engine can safely and reliably operate with.

Malaysian government
Refer to the fuel door as well as owner’s manual on the biodiesel blend. This Hyundai model only takes a maximum of B7 biodiesel

Meanwhile, the black-nozzled B10 biodiesel is targeted at commercial vehicles in the transportation sector, as well as some modern pick-ups. The phased-out Euro 2M diesel is 50 times “dirtier” than the Euro 5M specifications, as the sulphur content is 500 parts per million (ppm), resulting in higher levels of dangerous emissions in the air.

According to the minister, Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, the phasing out of Euro 2M diesel was September 2020, but a decision was made in June 2020 to postpone the phasing-in date six months later due to the constraints faced by the industries as well as the outbreak of Covid-19.

The latest weekly fuel price announcement states that diesel prices remain at RM2.25 per litre for B7 blend and RM2.15 per litre for B10 blend, which are ceiling prices that have been set by the government since February 2021. The price of the uncapped RON 97 fuel has been on a rising trend, now retailing at RM2.52 per litre.
