Facts & Figures: Bentley Flying Spur V8 arrives in Malaysia, from RM839k

April 7, 2021 By Keith Leave a Comment

A great post about Malaysia.

After launching the 6.0-litre W12 version of the Flying Spur in February last year, Bentley Kuala Lumpur has now announced the arrival of the V8 model with a base price of RM839,000 before options and taxes

Under the hood now is a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 with 550 hp and 770 Nm; good for a 0 to 100 km/h time of 4.1 seconds onward to a top speed of 318 km/h.

Car body styles

When less than 235 Nm is required and engine revs are below 3,000 rpm, the V8 engine will automatically and seamlessly shut down four of its eight cylinders for higher efficiency and lower emissions.

Occupants will not notice this as the switch happens within 20 milliseconds, about 1/10 of the time it takes to blink an eye. Bentley says this also improves fuel consumption by up to 16%.

Cars

Also contributing to the Flying Spur’s efficiency while improving its agility is the lack of “body fat”. The V8 model is some 100 kg lighter than the W12 model.

In striking a fine balance between comfort and agility, the V8 Flying Spur is equipped with adaptive air suspension and a 48V electric active roll control system for reduced body roll to ensure better stability and allowing it to corner flat.

Kuala Lumpur

The improved air suspension also contains 60% more air volume for an even more precise setup of the suspension, according to the drive mode selected.

This is done in accordance with Bentley’s research from the last 10 years, which has seen a shift in usage of the Flying Spur – from being chauffeur-driven to self-driven vehicles.

Luxury vehicles

On the outside, customers have over 60 exterior colours to choose from to complement the standard 20-inch wheels. Inside, there are five different hides available, with an additional 10, should the customer opt for the Colour Specification option.

The cabin is furnished with Crown Cut Walnut trims as standard but the highlight of which has to be the Bentley Rotating Display with three different surfaces – a 12.3-inch touchscreen, 3 analogue dials, or just a plain wood surface.

Sedans

The centrepiece of the rear section is the Touch Screen Remote that’s seamlessly integrated into the rear console. Users will be able to control features like the rear seat massage, air conditioning, and even the blinds with it.

Further adding to the opulent cabin is a refrigerator wedged in between the rear seats, behind the armrest. Operating temperatures can be as low as -6 degrees, with the fridge capable of accommodating up to six 330 ml cans or two full-sized champagne bottles.

Mercedes-AMG A 45 S in M’sia now without Edition 1, CLA 45 S gets head-up display

March 27, 2021 By Keith Leave a Comment

A great article on Penang Malaysia.

The Mercedes-AMG A 45 S was launched here in Malaysia exclusively in a limited ‘Edition 1’ trim, which brought onto the car several additional exterior and interior features. For those still holding out on buying the pocket rocket, unfortunately the ‘Edition 1’ has now run out, and will be replaced by the “regular” A 45 S from here on out.

Car classificationsCars

However, just like its predecessor, the new “regular” model still gets most of the kit that the Edition 1 model offered. Both the Aerodynamic Package (additional aerodynamic fins and splitter on the front apron, rear spoiler, and enhanced rear diffuser) and AMG Night Package (blacked out trims) have been retained on the new model, with the only noticeable difference being the removal of the Edition 1 decals.

The “regular” Mercedes-AMG A 45 S 4 Matic+ also gets the iconic Panamericana grille up front, and the 19-inch alloy wheels are unchanged from the Edition 1 variant, matte black and all. Although the Edition 1 kit is no more, exterior colour choices still remain the same from before – you only get to choose between Sun Yellow and Designo Mountain Grey Magno.

Inside, the new regular model comes without the Edition 1 “dark aluminium” trim on the dashboard, replaced by a light longitudinal-grain aluminium trim. The Edition 1 steering wheel, wrapped completely in Dinamica microfibre, is also now replaced with a more “regular” AMG Performance unit that includes a touch of Nappa leather.

Otherwise, the new variant is essentially unchanged from the “Edition 1” variant. This includes all the mechanical bits, such as the 2.0-litre turbocharged inline-four engine, making 421 hp and 500 Nm of torque, paired to an eight-speed DCT gearbox for a century sprint time of just 3.9 seconds.

It still comes with a Drift Mode!

The new 2021 Mercedes-AMG A 45 S 4Matic+ is priced at RM437,673.41, on the road, without insurance, and inclusive of the sales tax exemptions (until the 30th of June), making it roughly RM5.6k cheaper than before.

Meanwhile, the Mercedes-AMG CLA 45 S 4Matic+ has also been updated for the 2021 model-year, with a new price tag of RM453,374.19 on the road, without insurance, and inclusive of the sales tax exemptions – approximately RM19.6k higher than before.

For that extra dough, you now get a new head-up display on the dashboard, displaying key driving information closer to the driver’s  natural line of sight – particularly helpful when you’re having a little bit of fun.

Otherwise, the car is essentially unchanged from before, so do make sure to check out the full facts and figures from our launch coverage, here.

We’ve also compared the all-new Mercedes-AMG A 45 S (in Edition 1 form) against its predecessor, so make sure to give that a read before you splash down the cash!

C253 Mercedes-Benz GLC300 4Matic Coupe Debuts in Malaysia With An Estimated Price Of RM399,888

April 8, 2019 By Keith Leave a Comment

Penang Malaysia new & views.

The following material was in fact submitted courtesy of Automotive News. I enjoy taking a look at any one of their articles as they’re genuinely instructional. I hope you get something out of it.

automatic transmission

The C253 Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe line-up in Malaysia has been updated to include a new GLC 300 4Matic AMG Line variant, which replaces the existing GLC 250 4Matic AMG Line, and slots in below the Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 4Matic.

The GLC 300 is one of two models (the other is the all-new GLE 450) being introduced by Mercedes-Benz Malaysia (MBM) today, in conjunction with the company’s Hungry for Adventure Festival happening this weekend.

With the GLC 300, you get a M274 2.0 litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine that serves up 245 PS (241 hp) at 5,500 rpm and 370 Nm of torque from 1,300-4,000 rpm. A nine-speed 9G-Tronic automatic transmission is standard here, as is a 4Matic all-wheel drive system.

Performance-wise, you’re looking at a zero to 100 km/h time of 6.5 seconds and a top speed of 236 km/h. A Dynamic Select system is as per before, offering five operating modes (Eco, Comfort, Sport, Sport+ and Individual) to choose from, and you also get sports suspension.

Car classifications

Standard equipment that comes standard on the GLC 300 include the AMG Line exterior kit, with elements such as a single-louvre diamond radiator grille (with pins finished in chrome), a Night package and rugged aprons at the front and rear.

There’s also LED Intelligent Light System headlamps complemented by Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus, aluminium-look running boards, a rear spoiler and 20-inch multi-spoke light-alloy wheels.

Meanwhile, the interior features Artico leather upholstery, AMG sports pedals, black piano lacquer or light longitudinal-grain aluminium trim, a flat-bottom AMG sports steering wheel, powered seats (with lumbar support and memory function for front passengers), a panoramic sunroof, Audio 20 multimedia CD, ambient lighting and a Burmester sound system. For convenience, there’s also Hands Free Access. This is definitely an artistic and convenient way to travel around Malaysia, especially in Penang.

Cars

In terms of safety and driver assist systems, the GLC 300 follows in the footsteps of its non-coupe, X253 GLC sibling, gaining Lane Tracking Package, which includes Blind Spot Assist and Active Lane Keeping Assist. Other items such as Collision Prevention Assist Plus and Attention Assist are also present.

According to MBM, the GLC 300 4Matic Coupe is a locally-assembled (CKD) model unlike its predecessor, the GLC 250. It also carries an estimated price tag of RM399,888 on-the-road without insurance. That makes it cheaper than the GLC 250 (RM445,888), although keep in mind that was a fully-imported (CBU) model.

As with other Mercedes-Benz models, Agility Financing is available, and with a three-year tenure and a 25% downpayment, the monthly instalment for the GLC 300 is RM3,998. The financing plan also includes two complimentary comprehensive service packages, but this offer is only available until April 30, 2019.
