Tian Yuan Desserts 甜园 @ Jalan Kebun Bungah, Penang.

March 18, 2021 By Keith Leave a Comment

An interesting article on Penang.

Shortly after Tian Yuan Desserts 甜园’s debut, the place was thronged with people wanting to try their signature Dessert Platter but the place has more than just desserts to offer. Found at one corner of the ESH Landscaping at Waterfall Road and right next to Big Ben Western Breakfast, Tian Yuan offers a big Tong Sui menu with some mains and snacks. The place only opens for business in the evening (starting from 5 pm) but it can be very warm to visit even at that time. Our sweat was dripping throughout the meal (we were there at 6 pm), though the food quality was promising, we reckon it would be a more enjoyable experience if the place is air-conditioned. For a place with such a simple setting, the dishes are slightly over-priced.

Our orders were served in a jiffy and that includes both noodle dishes- Tomato and Beef Brisket Noodles and Herbal Chicken Broth Noodles. Both very delicious in its own way; the former one has a thick, rich broth with bold Tomato flavor and a hint of sweetness. The broth was probably a little too thick for Vermicelli noodles. The latter choice of Herbal Chicken Broth Noodles had a strong herbaceous aroma as well but we did not like the Chicken Thigh was served in a whole, making it very hard to devour it completely. Also, a pity that there were only 2 noodle choices- either instant noodles or Vermicelli Noodles… would be better if they could at least offer more. We also had a side of Pork Belly Sichuan Mala Dry Pot, which turned out to be pretty average. While the Mala elements were there, we did not find the dish extraordinary. The desserts were good but the portion was a little less-satisfying (too small for our appetite).
