Little Spicy Noodle House 小红面屋 @ Butterworth, Penang.

February 11, 2021 By Keith Leave a Comment

This blog post comes courtesy of kenhuntfood.com. Great reviews backed up with some great photos too.

It’s easy to miss Little Spicy Noodle House 小红面屋, a new noodle house found at the Teras Jaya shop lots (opposite to Chung Ling Butterworth). The noodle house seems ordinary from afar and there was no attractive elements on display to lure diners in but if you are a noodle lover, do not miss this place. The interior is as simple as its exterior- just the typical dining place with simple tables and chairs but the menu is extraordinary. The noodle menu is small but features something that cannot be found elsewhere. It’s signature- Japanese Mazesoba is one of a kind with Japanese-Taiwanese elements. A worth checking out place in Butterworth for its delicious noodles and inexpensive price tags.

The signature Japanese Mazesoba may seem small in serving but the noodle dish packed great flavors. The home-made noodles possessed a springy texture and topped with various ingredients like minced Meat, Spring Onions, Japanese Long Onion, Seaweed and raw Garlic. The accompanying sauce has an Umami flavor… similar like the Japanese-style noodles. The interesting part of this noodle dish… it comes with small White Rice (Japanese-style Pearl Rice). The usage of the Rice was to mop up all the leftover sauces after the noodles were consumed. The trick- to add a dash of specially concocted Vinegar for the extra spicy-sour experience. This was a dish we thoroughly enjoyed. The Sze Chuan Mazesoba was alright- with great Sze Chuan Ma-La flavors but as expected, it was a little too greasy to our liking. For side, we had Little Spicy… a type of fluffy-soft Bun sandwiching some spicy minced Meat… pretty decent but nothing to shout over.
