Authorities Began To Investigate AirAsia Flight Delays

May 10, 2022 By Keith Leave a Comment

An interesting post on Penang.

Several government agencies have launched an investigation regarding delays that were experienced by AirAsia passengers as of late. Among them is the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs, as revealed by its minister, Alexander Nanti Linggi through his social media channels yesterday.

The revelation was accompanied by screenshots of complaints from several customers including former Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation, Wilfred Madius Tangau. Interesting enough, one of the screenshots also includes a post by Twitter user folkloreswifty who observed the airline’s usage of the word “rescheduled” as opposed to “delayed”:

Air Asia Tunda, Jadual Semula Penerbangan

Sebagai menteri yang ditugaskan menjaga pengguna, saya mengambil maklum mengenai rungutan, aduan dan keluhan disuarakan pengguna berhubung kelewatan penerbangan Air Asia, membabitkan pelbagai destinasi dalam negara. pic.twitter.com/lpZMoFJjDk

— Alexander Nanta Linggi (@AlexNantaLinggi) May 9, 2022

It is not known how true is the claim but surely, the tweet has garnered massive attention as it has since been retweeted by almost 5,000 other Twitter users at the time this article goes live. Meanwhile, Alexander has also revealed that his ministry is working together with the Ministry of Transportation to look into the matter.

He also noted that the authorities have noticed the complaints from AirAsia customers since late last month. While he said both ministries will work together to sort out the issue, Alexander also said that consumers should submit an official complaint to the airline first before contacting the Malaysia Aviation Commission (MAVCOM).

Even though he is not wrong at all as it is indeed part of MAVCOM’s complaint SOP, the irony is still not lost on us because it is quite clear from those screenshots that passengers were quite appalled by all the delays that they have experienced. If we have to guess, they most likely want MAVCOM to just come in and put its authority into action.

MAVCOM FlySmart
MAVCOM has established a dedicated platform called FlySmart, complete with its own mobile app, to handle complaints related to the aviation industry.

As the statement didn’t include any reference to penalties or legal actions that AirAsia may face from the investigation, we do wonder if the latest move by KPDNHEP and MOT has an actual “bite” to it. Furthermore, AirAsia has yet to respond to the statement made by the minister even though it has been more than 18 hours since it was published, although we still like to believe that the statement didn’t simply fly over the airline.

JPJ Is Using GoPro Max Cameras To Spot Traffic Offences

May 1, 2022 By Keith Leave a Comment

An informative article on Malaysia.

The Road Transport Department (JPJ) is equipping its motorcycle enforcement unit with 128 surveillance cameras to detect traffic offenders and monitor road users passing through roadblocks in hotspot areas during this Raya season. Specifically, the unit is using GoPro Max cameras which are able to capture 360-degrees footage.

JPJ will be focusing on spotting nine main traffic offences that have been found to be the cause of fatal traffic accidents. Some of the offences include not wearing safety helmets or seat belts, over-taking at double lines, violating traffic lights, using a phone while driving, and overloaded commercial vehicles.

JPJ Director-General Zailani Hashim said that when the offences are caught on camera, the offenders will first be called in for questioning before action is taken against them. The operation which will last until 9 May already kicked into high gear as 508 summonses have already been issued from 9 PM to 12 AM on the first day of the operation alone to 279 out of 1,137 vehicles that were inspected for various offences, including driving without a license and expired road tax.

The department also recently asked members of the public to help with its Ops Hari Raya Aidilfitri by reporting any traffic violations they witness through the e-Aduan section of the JPJ Info app although this feature is only available for Android at the moment. If you’re travelling during this Raya season, do take the proper safety precautions and remember to follow PLUS’ travel time advisory in order to optimise your travel time.

Let’s admit deep down, that we are all avid hotpot lovers. We mean, what’s there not to love about hotpot right? Having hotpot, especially when it’s raining, just hits different. And not to mention, you get to cook only the ingredients you prefer. Now speaking of hotpot, we bring you this exclusive news: Beauty In The Pot from Singapore will be opening its very first outlet in Penang! Keep reading!

Beauty In The Pot Will Be Opening Its First Penang Outlet

If you’re a real hotpot lover, then you would have already known what we’re talking about. The 4th Beauty In The Pot outlet will be right here in Penang! Woohoo!

Beauty In The Pot PenangPhoto: @happyybellies (Instagram)

Essentially, Beauty In The Pot is such a hit among foodies because you get to savour the essence of health and beauty all in one pot. They are commonly known for serving collagen in hotpot broth known as the Beauty Collagen Broth.

Beauty In The Pot PenangPhoto: @crappysotong (Instagram)

Well, aside from collagen broth, they also have a variety of other hotpot broth like Signature Spicy Nourishing Soup, Herbal Drunken Chicken Broth, Cooling Coconut Broth, Longevity Wild Mushroom Broth, and Vitamin C Tomato Sweet Corn Broth.

When it comes to hotpot, the ingredients play a rather important role too. This is why all ingredients at Beauty In The Pot are prepared fresh daily. Our personal recommendation is their Specialty Meat Platter. In fact, you can even try out the Assorted Paste Platter too.

Meta Introduces Personal Boundary In Horizon Worlds And Venues To Curb Harassment

February 7, 2022 By Keith Leave a Comment

An interesting article about Malaysia.

The parent company of Facebook, Meta has added a new feature called Personal Boundary in its Horizon Worlds and Horizon Venues  As you can guess from the name, avatars within both virtual reality spaces can now have a set distance of personal space that will be off-limits to others.

Through the new feature, each avatar now has a boundary of two virtual feet which makes it impossible for users to come within more than four feet of each other. Users will not feel any haptic feedback when someone tried to breach their Personal Boundary as the feature will stop the intruders from moving forward.

meta horizon worlds venue personal boundary
[Photo: Meta]

In general, the new feature was built upon an existing anti-harassment feature that made avatars’ hands disappear when they violate someone’s boundary.  Personal Boundary is turned on by default and can’t be disabled by users while Meta also said it’s also working on letting users customise the size of their boundary in the future.

However, high-fives and fist bumps are still allowed but it requires users to extend their arms in Horizon Worlds and Horizon Venues. Nevertheless, the feature seems to be a necessary measure especially after a metaverse researcher recently published a blog post detailing how she had been sexually harassed and virtually gang-raped in Horizon Venues.

October 26, 2021 By Keith Leave a Comment

An interesting post about Malaysia.

Apple Store

We may be nearing the end of 2021, but there’s no better time than now to really get into sustainability initiatives. Because it’s never too late to go green. When we heard that Lotus’s Malaysia is on board in supporting the government’s 12th Malaysia Plan in environmental sustainability and green technology, we had to find out more!

Lotus’s Introduces The Reverse Vending Machine So You Can Recycle & Be Rewarded!

Watch on YouTube.

As part of Lotus’s ongoing initiatives to reduce waste, they are introducing the Reverse Vending Machine (RVM) by Klean! Sounds intriguing? It’s ultimately a recycling machine for the disposal of used bottles and cans. What it does is help minimise waste and plastic pollution by encouraging grocery shoppers to recycle.

Casinos & Gaming (NEC)

That’s not all! You can even recycle and earn Lotus’s eVouchers! Simply recycle unwanted bottles and cans to earn 500 Klean Points, which is equivalent to 50 bottles and/or cans, and that entitles you to one RM5 Lotus’s eVoucher! The eVouchers are redeemable at any Lotus’s outlets nationwide too. You can even redeem other rewards such as Grab vouchers and even Boost Coins!

Here’s How To Recycle, Scan & Redeem:

  1. Download the Klean The World app on Apple Store or Play Store, and register your details
  2. Press ‘Recycle Now’ on the RVM
  3. Deposit up to 10 empty bottles/cans into RVM
  4. Click ‘Finish’ and scan the QR code to redeem Klean points, or simply enter your mobile number if you don’t have the app

Facebook

You can find Klean RVM at Lotus’s Penang E-Gate starting from 7 October. They are also available at Shell TTDI, Shell SKVE, and Resorts World Genting. Look out for more RVMs that will be launching soon in various locations nationwide!

No More Single Use Plastic Bags

Genting

Similarly, if you didn’t already know, all Lotus’s outlets in Malaysia have stopped offering single-use plastic bags at its checkout counters since the start of July this year. Expectedly, netizens as well as frequent shoppers are thrilled for the new change!

green technology Malaysia Malaysian government

Lotus’s ‘No Single-Use Plastic’ initiative is very much in line with the Malaysian government’s Roadmap to Zero Single-Use Plastics 2018-2030, which envisions a cleaner and environmentally sustainable Malaysia by 2030. You can ‘Bring Home Change’ today, with merely a simple act of just reusing your bag can bring a huge sustainable impact to the environment.

Play Store

Have tons of empty bottles and cans lying around your house? Now you know what to do with them! Join in on Lotus’s green initiative today and start bringing your recyclables to deposit into Klean RVMs. Also remember to bring your own bag whenever you are shopping for groceries at Lotus’s! Sinovac Recipients To Get Booster Dose Starting 22 October

October 22, 2021 By Keith Leave a Comment

A great post on Malaysia.

Ministry of Health (MoH) has decided to expand its COVID-19 vaccine booster dose rollout program to include individuals that were administrated with the vaccine from Sinovac. The program originally covers high-risk individuals including frontliners, senior citizens, and those with comorbidities that have received Pfizer-BioNTech’s Comirnaty vaccine.

Sinovac recipients will also be administered with the Comirnaty vaccine as their booster dose. Despite being rolled out on an off-label basis, it has received the green light from the National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency (NPRA).

BIONTECH

In addition to that, the Institute for Clinical Research Malaysia (ICR) will also observe the mix-and-match booster dose administration in order to learn more about its efficacy and side effects. The time gap between the second dose of the Sinovac vaccine and the Comirnaty booster dose is at least three months, according to MoH.

The phased rollout will take place from tomorrow, 22 October onwards starting with elderlies aged 60 years and above. Eligible individuals will receive their booster appointment date through MySejahtera or SMS for those who do not use the app.

Facebook

To be managed by MoH non-profit subsidiary, ProtectHealth Corporation, the booster dose will be administrated by private medical practitioners. As the booster dose rollout is still under the purview of the National COVID-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK), it is being made available on a voluntary basis and free of charge.
