BMW presents new fleet of Moto GP safety cars (and bike)!

March 9, 2021 By Keith Leave a Comment

A really good article on Penang Malaysia.

Since 1999 BMW’s M cars have been the Official Car of Motor GP and when the new season kicks off on the 28th of March at the Grand Prix Qatar, both riders and spectators will be greeted with a new line up of M cars.

This year marks the first time BMW M has presented three new safety cars and a safety bike. This includes the BMW M3, M4, M5 CS, and M 1000 RR Safety Bike – the latter being the first M bike from BMW Motorrad.

With the new fleet of safety cars and bike for the 2021 Moto GP season, BMW M has foregone the classic motorsport colour scheme and instead opted for the exclusive colours offered to the production fleet.

That’s not all. These cars have been slightly modified to be equipped with light bars, flashing front lights, quick-release bonnet latches, and emergency power shut-off switches.

The rear seats in the BMW M4 Competition have been removed but for the front seats, 4-point harnesses have been installed. The M3 and M4 in particular come with modified exhaust systems.

“We are very proud to be starting the season with four new vehicles for the first time in our 20-year history as the ‘Official Car of MotoGP’. Our three new safety cars are based on production models, which deliver outstanding performance and driving dynamics that make them ideally suited to appear in the Moto GP,” said BMW M, CEO, Markus Flasch.

Loud exhausts not motorists’ fault, consumer association speaks up

March 6, 2021 By Keith Leave a Comment

A great article about Penang.

According to a local news report, the Federation of Malaysian Consumer’s Association (FOMCA) has spoken up and stressed that consumers are not to be blamed for the loud exhaust fiasco that has put every motoring enthusiast on the edge.

Instead, the onus should be on the government to regulate the import and sale of such “illegal” exhaust systems. President of FOMCA, Che Hassan Che Johan, highlighted that if shops are legally allowed to sell them, consumers are bound to purchase them.

Vandalism isn’t the way either.

The wise man and frankly, our hero for the month, also stressed that motorists should not be forbidden from indulging in their passion and interest for automotive tuning and enforcement should take place against the vendors instead; something we highlighted in our previous article.

If you’re aren’t aware yet, your loud exhaust (not sure loud is loud), can land you an RM2,000 fine or six months in prison if they’re found to be too loud or harmful to the environment.
