Kitch Garden Cafe @ Rangoon Road, Georgetown, Penang.

This blog post comes courtesy of kenhuntfood.com. Great reviews backed up with some great photos too.

Another option for those who practice plant-based diet, Kitch Garden did not originally offer a plant-based menu when it first started but recently, they have converted into a vegetarian cafe, offering only a plant-based food menu. While the menu is not too big, it ranges from both local delights (like Assam Laksa, Curry Mee) to international dishes (Japanese Curry, Quesadilla etc). Budget watchers would be glad to know that all food items are reasonably priced here at Kitch Garden Cafe. Nothing overly fancy about the dining hall or restaurant setting… just a comfortable, air-conditioned space for a simple, fuss-free vegetarian meal.

One of their best sellers is Assam Laksa… which ticked most of the boxes right. The sourness was apparent and the unique Assam flavor was bold, the heat was there too (presumably from the Bird’s Eye chilies)… though we did not get the sweet seafood aftertaste in this. The rice noodles were nicely cooked with a silky smooth texture as well. Equally nice was Taiwanese Burger, fluffy bun sandwiching some seasoned Bean Curd covered in slight-sweet sauce. With the contrast of crunchy elements, the combo was a pleaser. Japanese Curry Rice on the other hand, was less-impressive. The rice was not Japanese Rice and the Curry was a little watered down… or not as thick, creamy as we would have hoped, though the Japanese Curry flavor can still be tasted. We washed down the meal with the lightly sweetened, creamy Soy Milk.

Bowl Curry Noodle House 咖喱面王子 @ Nagore Road, Georgetown, Penang.

With close to 35 years of experience in selling Penang styled Curry Mee, Bowl Curry Noodle House 咖喱面王子 has finally moved into a proper shop with modern setting from a humble stall at Air Itam area. The new shop at Nagore Road has a cozier setting… fully air-conditioned and offers a slightly expanded menu… featuring dry Curry Mee and Curry Hot Pot. There is a display fridge with all the fish balls and hotpot ingredients… clearly distributed in different color plates and priced accordingly.

Cheese Dry Curry Noodle (Rm 8.50)
Bowl Curry Noodle House’s Curry Noodles are known for its signature stir fried Cuttle Fish and every order of their Curry Noodles would come with a scoop of those. The classic version has all the quintessential toppings… except that diners would have to add the chilies themselves (good news for spicy lovers). While we thought the Curry Mee was okay, we did not think it was anything special… pretty much a bowl of standard Penang Curry Mee; though we did agree that they were rather generous with the toppings. Cheese Dry Curry Noodle on the other hand, was a little playful with a sheet of Cheese. The Cheese had not done much in its aid, it basically melted once we stirred it in… it also felt like a thicker version of Curry Mee sans the soup… not exactly our type of Curry Mee.
