Shangri-La’s Hotels and Resorts, Asia Pacific’s leading luxury hotel group, has recently appointed Elaine Yue as the 14th and the first female general manager for Shangri-La’s Rasa Sayang Resort and Spa, Penang.

Ms Yue joins Shangri-La’s Rasa Sayang Resort and Spa, Penang from Shangri-La Hotel, Chiang Mai, where she spent three years in a similar position.

Ms Yue is familiar with Penang, as she was the general manager of Traders Hotel, Penang in 2006.

Ms Yue joins Shangri-La’s Rasa Sayang Resort and Spa, Penang with a wealth of operational experience gained from working in flagship Shangri-La properties in a variety of cultural settings.

She was resident manager of Shangri-La Hotel, Kuala Lumpur while the property was in the midst of a major renovation, and through a combination of knowledge, experience and dedication, she successfully oversaw the transition and ensured that upgrading works were completed on schedule. She started her career in the room division at Kowloon Shangri-La, Hong Kong.

“Being in Chiang Mai for almost three years has taught me to be more task-orientated yet patient when dealing with staff and guests. I am very excited to be back in Penang and to be working with such an impressive team. It’s an honour to continue this legacy of fine Asian hospitality built over the years by my seasoned and dedicated predecessors. Although Rasa Sayang has been operating since 1973, the reputation of the resort is closely linked with Penang’s fame as the ‘Pearl of the Orient.’ Forging ahead to new heights in improving tourist arrivals and returns while competing with other destinations within the Asian region are some of the challenges that Penang has to reckon with. I hope to help the resort attain new milestones and contribute towards the concerted efforts of the Penang hoteliers and travel trade fraternity in ensuring that the island maintains its competitive edge as the destination of choice,” said Ms Yue.

Hong Kong-based Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts currently owns and/or manages 72 hotels under the Shangri-La, Kerry and Traders brands with a rooms inventory of over 30,000. Shangri-La hotels are five-star deluxe properties featuring extensive luxury facilities and services. Shangri-La hotels are located in Australia, Canada, mainland China, Fiji, France, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Maldives, Philippines, Singapore, Sultanate of Oman, Taiwan, Thailand and the United Arab Emirates. The group has a substantial development pipeline with upcoming projects in Canada, mainland China, India, Malaysia, Mongolia, Philippines, Qatar, Sri Lanka, Turkey and United Kingdom.
