Whats-On-Penang-Rae-06Every so often an opportunity comes along to witness a musical talent being débuted and you just know that this has all the hallmarks of the start of something bigger. Saturday, 28th January, 2012 was such a date and Rae is such a talent.

I had warned everyone beforehand that this was an event to show up for and show up early to avoid disappointment. It was with much dismay that I did not heed my own words and allow enough time for travel, as I eventually turned up late myself.

Whats-On-Penang-Rae-01Catching the last three numbers (actually the last number and two answered calls for encore, there actually being many more calls for more!!!) was enough to sample what this rare voice has to offer. Speaking with Rae after the event she said that at least I had arrived for the best three songs but I think this was just a glimpse of her modesty as everyone I spoke to said the whole night was a glorious success.

Her rich warm voice and naturally charming character soon win you over. She oozes professionalism and enthusiasm in equal measures and you just find yourself smiling and tapping along.

It was hard to believe this was her professional debut, Rae was so polished and relaxed. This girl is set to go far!

Writing this on the Monday after, I have just been informed that Rae flew into a contest in Singapore, Impressario 2012. An annual Nationwide Talent Search Competition organized by CAC to give individuals a chance to display their talent and realize their dreams on their desired stage. This is the 20th year this event has taken place and Rae has succeeded in getting through to the semi-final.

The first prize up for grabs is S$1,000 cash and Studio Recording Package consisting of 1 hour recording, 2 hours editing/mixing and vocal lessons at Lei Wei Song School of Music and the real prize of choice, an Exclusive Performance Contract for one year.

I am sure you will all join me and the team at ‘What’s On Penang’ in wishing Rae the best of luck from the whole of Penang.
