Morning Peeps 早起の鸟儿 @ CY Choy, Georgetown, Penang.

An interesting article about Penang.

Morning Peeps 早起の鸟儿 is not your usual breakfast place that offers local Chinese breakfast items but instead, it has a Taiwanese-influenced breakfast (or brunch) menu. Familiar items like Soy Milk with Chinese Crullers, Taiwanese Pancake, Scallion Pancake, Gua Bao (Taiwanese Steamed Bun) are also on the list; they are however, priced at very affordable rates. The setting is simple and straight-forward… with basic tables and chairs; the place is not air-conditioned so embrace the sultry tropical heat when dining out at this place. Morning Peeps be found at CY Choy, adjacent to the junction to Tye Sin Street.

There are plenty of options when it comes to the Taiwanese Pancake but we decided to stick to the original- merely Egg and Pancake Sheet served with the distinctive thick and sweet Soy Sauce. The flavor was straight-forward but the texture was good- soft with a slight chewiness, the accompanying sweet Soy Sauce worked as well. We did not enjoy the Mushroom Ragout Sourdough though, the Sourdough was a tad too dry and hard to our liking. The Oyster Mushrooms were slightly over-seasoned. We also had the Soy Milk with Chinese Crullers- the Soy Milk was obviously home-made. It was light but might be overly light to our liking (lacked the creaminess and Soya aroma).
