A great post on Penang.

If you are looking for Hainance chicken rice in Penang, a place worth visiting is Kokokay Hainanese Chicken Rice. Run by the owner Mr. Tan and his wife, their stall No. 21 housed in Kompleks Penjaja Desiran Tanjung (Tanjung Tokong Food Court) has been quietly serving out some really good “Kocah Bi” (taste of yesteryears) chicken rice.

Besides putting a lot of effort into maintaining the taste and smooth texture of the poached chicken, Mr Tan cooks the rice with a depth of fragrant chicken flavour using chicken stock.

A serving of chicken served with oil and soy sauce alongside freshly cut cucumber is accompanied by a complement of soup. The chili sauce is also worthy of a mention – distinctive as it is prepared with fruit-loaded sourish freshness instead of the usual vinegar.

On a subsequent visit, each of us had an individual serving of the chicken rice. It’s good value, RM5 for chicken breast and RM6 for chicken drumstick (deboned). Making the meal even better is a serving of braised chicken feet. Occasionally, the Tans also serve up braised pork trotter.

Many staying nearby are making Kokokay Hainanese Chicken Rice stall a place to go for breakfast and lunch. Since our first lunch visit, we were back many more times, even with many takeaways for home consumption.
