Hai Jia Seafood Restaurant can be found at the far end of Permatang Damar Laut of Batu Maung, the place can be tricky to locate especially for those who are not familiar with the neighborhood. The restaurant lies deep in a residential area of Permatang Damar Laut but it’s definitely worth your traveling time. Not only that the place offers a nice seaview, the menu is suitable for all age-range of diners (though the menu is a little limited). Price points are on the higher side if you must know.
Steamed Red Snapper with Garlic (Rm 89/ Large)
Three-flavored Fried Tofu (Rm 20)
Deep Fried Spring Chicken (Rm 14.50/ 2 birds)
Deep Fried Prawn Fritters (Rm 16/ 2 pieces)
Stir Fried Vermicelli Noodles (Rm 15/ Large)
Stir Fried Bitter Gourd with Egg (Rm 12/ small)
Tuak- Palm Wine (Rm 15)
The Deep Fried Spring Chicken and Fried Prawn Fritters are probably the best sellers. We did not enjoy the former as we thought they they were not marinated enough, the seasoning was on the weaker side. The Fried Prawns Fritters on the other hand, were addictive. They were paper thin with crispy texture, the Shrimp aroma was discernible and worked best with the Tuak. We enjoyed the Stir Fried Vermicelli Noodles… the seasoning was spot on and the texture was great. For Rm 15, we thought it was value for money. The dish that contributed the most damage for this meal was the Steamed Red Snapper with Garlic, which we thought it was nothing out of the ordinary. The fish was indeed fresh but it was not something that I am willing to pay for; we thought it was slightly more expensive for that price tag.
