German Society Marks 50th Year

GEORGE TOWN: Over 120 Germans and Penangites celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Malaysian-German Society (MGS). Guests were treated to great food and jazz music at the Sarkies Restaurant at the Eastern and Oriental Hotel here recently.

Award-winning German jazz group SLIXS entertained guests with their genre of music, drawing thunderous applause.

Guest-of-honour, German Ambassador to Malaysia Dr Guenter Gruber brought good news to Penang folk when he announced that a RM24,000 donation will go towards the building of a German Heritage Trail in Penang.

He also announced that for the first time in the German embassy’s history, the German National Day will be celebrated in Penang on Oct 3.

Also present were German Consul-General to Penang Herbert Anton Weiler. By Predeep Nambiar
