EV tax-free in 2022: Porsche Taycan in Malaysia now from RM508k!

January 21, 2022 By Keith Leave a Comment

A really good article on Penang Malaysia.

In response to the Malaysian government’s initiative to exempt fully electric vehicles (EV) from tax and duties from 2022, Sime Darby Auto Performance (SDAP) has now announced a revised tax-free pricing for the Taycan here in Malaysia.

The revised price list for the Porsche Taycan in Malaysia is as follows:

  • Porsche Taycan – RM508,000 (-RM76k)
  • Porsche Taycan 4S – RM595,000 (-RM105k)
    • Cross Turismo – RM617,000 (-RM112k)
  • Porsche Taycan GTS – RM708,000
  • Porsche Taycan Turbo – RM793,000 (-RM224k)
    • Cross Turismo – RM798,000 (-RM171k)
  • Porsche Taycan Turbo S – RM934,000 (-RM218k)

Thanks to the tax exemptions, the entire Porsche Taycan range now slips under the RM1 million mark here in Malaysia. The most significant saving can be found on the Taycan Turbo, which saw a reduction in price of just over RM224k compared to when the model was first announced here in Malaysia.

As part of the 2022 updates, all purchases of a Porsche Taycan – regardless of variant – will also now come equipped with the Premium package, which adds on extra features as standard such as a four-zone automatic climate control system, passenger screen, ParkAssist with 360-degree surround view monitor, as well as a 22 kW onboard AC charger (up from 11 kW) and the Mobile Charger Connect charging system.

The Porsche Taycan comes with a four-year factory warranty with free scheduled service package, alongside an eight-year battery warranty. Taycan owners will also receive a complimentary three-year Platinum membership for the Shell Recharge network, offering up to 50% savings when using the DC fast chargers.

The first High Performance Charging station in the network, offering up to 180 kW of DC fast charging, is now operational in Tangkak, Johor.

According to the Malaysia Automotive Association (MAA), all EVs (both CBU and CKD models) will be exempted from import tax, road tax, and excise duties from 1st January 2022 until 31st December 2023. However, a sales tax of 10% will still apply for imported EVs – although it’s currently capped at 5% until 30th June 2022, due to the ongoing Pemerkasa+ stimulus package.

Locally-assembled EVs will enjoy their tax-exempted status until the end of 2025.
