Chimac Station @ Straits Quay, Tanjong Tokong, Penang.

June 27, 2021 By Keith

A really good article about Malaysia.

The name Chimac gives an impression that the place only serves Korean-style Fried Chicken and Beer (Fried Chicken + Maekju or Beer in English) but in actual fact, it dishes out a wide range of delicious Korean delights as well. The Korean restaurant is fairly new and tucked at one corner of Straits Quay; the interior decor is pretty standard but the menu is worth checking out… especially for Korean food lovers. Expect to find classics like Tteokbokki, Dakgalbi, Korean Pancakes, Steamed Eggs etc… price points are of average Korean restaurant level but the food quality has been consistently great.

The Lunch Promo at Chimac is exciting, for only Rm 18 nett, you get to choose a main out of 5 options. Both Janchi Guksu and Bibim Guksu were equally good, the former one was clean and easy on the palate with a mild Seafood sweetness (the soup). The noodles were expertly cooked with silky smooth texture. Likewise for the Bibim Guksu, the sauce was nicely done with the right flavor- not too acidic and absolutely refreshing. The Korean Fish Cake Soup was delicious as well- served in a traditional Ramyeon pot, the Oden was served piping hot. The Fish Cakes were okay but the soup was great with a touch of Bird’s Eye Chilies and Garlic… for the extra Chili heat. Probably the most-ordered dish here- Fried Chicken… we had their Soy Honey and Garlic Fried Chicken; true enough, it was delicious with the right amount of seasoning and addictive crunch. The serving portion was just good enough for 2 pax, might be a little insufficient if sharing in a group.
