When it opened little over a year ago in Ampang, KL, Spasso Milano was a nice boutique Italian restaurant with more than a little promise.
On first visit, you would be greeted by friendly staff and a contemporary atmosphere, with seriously tantilising aromas coming from the kitchen – this, plus the food itself, is what kept bringing people back time after time.
The lunch crowd was strong, and despite horrendous traffic on Jalan Ampang, one of the busier arterial routes in KL, a growing dinner crowd emerged appreciating Chef Felice Martinelli’s genuine Italian fare.
With growing popularity, the team behind Spasso saw their chance to share the passion for all things Italian, and launched their first outlet in Penang, at none other than Straits Quay.
Nestled in a great spot overlooking the marina entrance, and close to all the amenities, Spasso Straits Quay had the added advantage of alfresco dining, outside, whilst looking at the million dollar yachts being moored there.
Beautiful view, stunning cuisine, excellent wines, made for a great combination, and has helped to build up a great following by loyal Penangites
With Penang’s first true woodfired pizza oven, Spasso not only offered the same great dishes previously experienced in KL, but also offered Penangites the opportunity to try authentic Italian pizza – crispy thin crust, mouthwatering toppings, all prepared in a genuine wood fire pizza oven.
The latest addition has been a move to KL’s prestigious Pavilion. The new outlet in Pavilion will offer even more retail products, as well as inhouse dining and take-away options.
Its original wood-fired pizza oven will still produce those crispy thin crust pizzas’ we’ve come to love, and especially sourced Italian gourmet items will now be available, along with fresh bread and cakes from the kitchen, and great wines from the cellars of Italy.
You can dine-in and savour a hearty authentic Italian meal from Chef Felice’s kitchen, or take away the core ingredients so that you can try the same at home. All-time favourite, the anti-pasti lunch buffet, is being extended to offer new selections, adding to Chef Felice’s already 160-strong list of anti-pasti items.
Freshly prepared every day, with regular rotation of items to ensure that there’s always something different, the popular buffet has returned with even more taste tempters. No better way for a delicious lunch with friends, or a business meeting on the go, with great food and ambience. Priced from RM 28++, it certainly has to be one of the best value lunches the city has to offer.
Spasso’s new wine lounge, a temperature controlled wine room, allows you to sit and relax before or after your meal, with a bottle of your favourite chianti and maybe a cheese platter or indulgent desert, or hold a casual, yet productive, meeting in this relaxed private space. With low tables and sofas, the wine room becomes the perfect chill out space in the bustle of Pavilion.
Restaurant Manager, Angelo Picca, commented “it’s great for us at Spasso Milano to be closer to our customers in the heart of KL. We love food, and we love seeing our customers enjoy the experience that we provide. We know that they’ll love our new location, and
we look forward to continuing to delight everyone with our cuisine and hospitality”.
These sentiments are echoed by Chef Felice Martinelli (Head Chef), “it’s been amazing to see how Malaysians have embraced true Italian food, and I am so happy that we will now be in a location where we can share this love for great food with even more people”.
‘Spasso Milano: Authentic Italian, No Passport Required’ is on cue to set and exceed new cuisine benchmarks in Pavilion, and the team is looking forward to sharing their love for all things Italian
Chef Felice Martinelli and Spasso Milano recently took home a Gold Award in the 2011 round of HAPA (Hospitality Asia Platinum
Awards), in the Most Trendy Casual Dining category, recognizing the culinary skills and style of the restaurant.
For northern region fans and travellers alike, Spasso Milano is also open on Penang’s Straits Quay. Keep an eye out over the next few months, some new surprises are planned, which we are sure you will all really enjoy.
