When one mentions about having Western breakfast in Penang, many will be suggesting this place- Big Ben Breakfast. Being a glutton, its ashamed that I have yet to try their food after so many years, finally, I’ve found a time to hunt for it, the place where many people raved about! Location for Big Ben Breakfast is rather obscure and inconspicuous, from Jalan Kebun Bunga heading towards Botanical Garden, look for a touristy area on your right, Big Ben Breakfast is sitting at one of those hawker stalls.

Flamin’ good burgers

 
Opened not so long ago, this simple burger joint in Tanjung Bungah has become a bit of a surprising hit amongst both the expat and local community, consisting as it does of just plastic tables and chairs placed in the large forecourt of the Sunflower Bakery every evening.
This could be for various reasons: the alfresco seating which allows diners to enjoy the night air (although if it does rain fear not: there are umbrellas which fit over the tables and even, should it take a turn for the worse, a large overhead canopy).

Sushi Zanmai

The first chain Japanese conveyor-belt Sushi restaurant has landed in Penang, with the long anticipated opening at Gurney Paragon Mall, Penangites finally get to taste some really affordable yet quality Japanese dishes. Sushi Zanmai has 7 outlets in Kuala Lumpur and the first Sushi Zanmai outlet has just opened its doors few days ago. Sushi Zanmai is strategically located at level 6 of Gurney Paragon Mall, right beside to Rakuzen Japanese restaurant. Fortunately, their service was very attentive and everything seemed to be well-organized although it was the very first opening day for business. The speed of replenishing the items on the conveyor-belt was fast too.

Miam Miam, a newly opened French cum Japanese Restaurant, located at ground floor of Gurney Paragon Mall, right beside to Ben’s and beside Starbucks as well as Italiannies. Prices are considered on the higher side in Penang’s context.

Ferringhi Garden

Well known for its lush green surroundings, this restaurant has used a garden theme to enhance its ambience. There are long stemmed plants gently swaying in the breeze and a long, elaborate water feature running at least through half of the al fresco eating area. By the time it’s nightfall, glowing oil lamps cast soft shadows that result in a romantic feel. From the entrance, however, you’d never be able to tell just how large and sprawling its premises really is.

Moustache Houze

There are literally countless of heritage cafes sprouting out in the bustling roads of Georgetown recently and here comes another new one- Moustache Houze. Helmed by two pretty ladies, Moustache Houze has opened its door for less than 2 weeks and the place has been flooded with crowd since then. The iconic location of Moustache Houze makes it very easy to be found even by non-locals; it is situated towards the end of Campbell Street, Penang. This humble cafe has a very cozy and homely ambiance, with a twist of their own funky interior design as well as a mural paint painted on the wall of their cafe which has since then, became one of the landmarks of the cafe. The cafe serves cakes and beverages at the moment but they will be coming out with more and more to offer in the future, told by one of the partners.
